RETREAT THEME
What are we waiting for?
For many graduate students, life seems to be in somewhat of a holding pattern. Waiting to finish Masters before entering the job market. Waiting to defend the Thesis before getting the doctorate. Waiting to meet the person who you can spend the rest of your life with. Waiting for….until life can really start.
At this retreat, we will explore ways we can stop waiting and start living a better life, a more meaningful life, a more fulfilling life… now.
We will look at who we have put in charge of our life. Some of us let the opinions and expectations of others; parents, friends, professors determine our decisions and perspectives. Some of us rely on our own wisdom and knowledge to figure out what is most important and how to navigate life. That doesn’t always work out great either.
Since we will be visiting Nashville, Tennessee the Country Music Capital of the World, it makes sense that we have some fun with Country music so let’s be thinking about how the song of our life can turn out better than the typical country song about losing our job, our truck, our spouse or our dog. Let’s write a life song about gaining the most important and meaningful things in life and making a difference in the world and to those who are special in our lives.
The Great Escape is both a spiritual and fun retreat for international students and scholars from all religious backgrounds. It is an opportunity to escape the pressures of academic life for a brief period and retreat to a quiet place for some spiritual refreshment and to discover together what the Bible has to say about who we are and how we can live a meaningful and purposeful life. There will be music, teaching from the Bible, and spiritual discussions. There will also be lots of time for fun activities like a day trip to Nashville, TN, ziplining, escape rooms, hiking, a talent show, games, and friendship-building. This is a college and young adult-focused retreat.
